Rev. Charles Harrison didn't say which party he would seek office as Indianapolis mayor next year if he decides to run when he filed paperwork to form an exploratory committee last week. He said he could run as a Republican, Democrat, independent or even as the Libertarian candidate. Surprisingly, rumor has it that some Libertarians want Rev. Harrison to run under their banner, even though there are no known views of Harrison which align with Libertarian ideology. The person who is listed as the treasurer of his exploratory committee identifies herself as a Republican. Sahara Williams is president of Enginuity Engineering, which counts the City of Indianapolis among its clients. She ran unsuccessfully for the City-County Council in the last municipal election in District 7 against Council President Maggie Lewis. Republicans could benefit from Harrison's candidacy to the extent his campaign would be successful in siphoning votes away from Joe Hogsett's Democratic campaign. So would Libertarians allow someone to run under their party banner simply as a way of helping elect a Republican mayor next year? That's the question of the day.
