Keller Opts Out Of Indianapolis Mayor's Race

Former Indianapolis City-County Councilor Scott Keller becomes the latest in a string of potential candidates to pass on running for mayor this year. Keller tells WTHR's Mary Milz that he pledged to spend $4 million of his own money on the race if the Marion Co. Republicans backed his candidacy but decided against running after consulting with his wife Sharon. Former State Sen. Murray Clark, Jr, State Sen. James Merritt, House Speaker Brian Bosma and Public Safety Director Troy Riggs, others mentioned as possible candidates, have all said no to running. The front-running Democratic candidate, Joe Hogsett, will be opposed in the May primary by citizen activist Larry Vaughn. The only announced Republican committed to running is Jocelyn-Tandy Adande. Rev. Charles Harrison of the Ten Point Coalition is also considering a run, although he can't figure out which party's banner he wants to run under.
